We have not given an update in a long time. Tucker's Teddies is still up and running. In the past year or so life events have definatly slowed us down a bit but are still proving support. We continue to provide bears for those suffering grief and those who are dealing with a medical issue. Bears still continue to be shipped to several states. Just this week I have been reminded of the incredible impact a simple stuffed animal can bring.
One of the other things we continue.to do is supply memory boxes. These boxes are used to hold the most precious items including blankets, hats, clothes, foot prints and hand prints of angel babies. We continue to be grateful for all of the support we receive and all the Tucker has taught us. Love, hugs and prayers to all. This has been an exciting year for our teddy bears. Our bears have been sent to 10 different states, thanks to our friends at Mended Little Hearts. We have received feedback on the impact these bears have and it warms our heart every-time. As we always say never under estimate the power of a bear hug.
We continue to provide memory boxes and supplies which will be cherished by families that suffer loss. These boxes will hold hospital bands, blankets, hat and other items that will allow them to feel connected to their child. We also have spoken at memorial events and have provided education about loss and heart defects. As life gets back to normal or as normal as it can be for many of us after the last several years of COVID chaos, we are committed to supporting hospital staff more now than ever. During the pandemic hospital staff were treated to snacks, lunches, care items from so many however the donations have all but dried up. We will forever focus on thanking hospital staff for all they do. 460 University Drive Winchester, VA 22601 So much has changed since Tucker's Teddies was founded. Our original plan was to focus on hospitalized children and grieving adults, which is still an important part of our mission. What we have learned in the past couple of years is adults need bear hugs too and children grieve!! Hundreds of hospitalized adults have received Tucker's Teddie Bears and many children have received bears during a time of grief. Sometimes we forget adults get scared and need comforted. I can't tell you how heart warming it is when I walk by a room and a patient is holding a Tucker bear. When a child loses a parent or grandparent we give them the bear often "from" their loved one. They will have this forever.
The story of these families we feel are not ours to share, they receive or bears or other items at their most vulnerable time. What we can say is we are honored to be a small part of each journey and hope in someway Tucker's legacy helps in these difficult times. This past year we have been fortunate enough to expand to more hospitals and organizations. Turning grief into giving and always remembering grief and joy can co-exist help push us forward. Lastly, we thank each of you that continue to support our journey by giving our bears, donating blood, attending events, or donating to one of our causes, you are making a difference. Tucker's Teddies is continue to supply bears to those in the hospital of all ages. During this pandemic we have been able to deliver hundreds of bears to adults who are unable to have visitors in the hospital. Staff members have also received self-care items as a thank you for the amazing work they are continually doing.
We look forward to getting back into the community later in 2021. Wishing everyone a healthy and safe 2021! A Tucker Teddy was given to every patient at BWMC on April 10th. Families are not allowed to visit at this time so we wanted to "spread love one bear hug at a time!"
